The only thing that ever comes close to a mall experience was obviously the shopping complexes in Gandhipuram which was always a houseful show with excited kids and families going round doing their shopping.

Fun Mall location

It all started with the entry of peer Brookefields mall on the brooke bond road near RS Puram. People were awestruck, flabbergasted and a mixed feeling of unaccountable emotions of having their very own mall in Namma Coimbatore. Fast forward to 2011, came the announcement of another biggie under the hood, now choosing Avinashi road as the source of destination.

The shopping mall was inaugurated for full public viewing amidst a frenzy of gala events and people finally got to see the complete mall, a beautiful one indeed in its flesh and bone. 

The idea popped up as providing a source of entertainment for the college and school goers on the popular Avinashi road. As there are a string of colleges and schools nuzzled on the lines of the road, there was no room error in narrowing down the final place for the project.

The project happened in full swing, with workers running from pillars to post to get the job rather quickly for people to enjoy. It is managed by the E-city ventures, a part of Essel groups. The mall is sprung across a stunning 3.25 lakh sq.ft, standing tall near the Varadharaja mills. This now stands out to be the landmark for the hopes- Peelamedu junction.

Fun Mall has a total of 6 levels including the basements that houses the parking lot, which is effectively equipped to accommodate decent numbers of vehicles. The design language is rather quirky than an orthodox stereotyped look of Brookfields, yet in a beautiful way.

We just wish the same could have been carried over to the interiors which look squeezed from all the ends, the overall ambiance looks suffocating but the finish and design language is stunning if not the best and is miles away from the standard designs of other malls in Coimbatore. 

One place where they took a heavy blow seems to be the placement of escalators and stairs which are oddly placed and often leaves us in crossroads looking for ways to either go up or climb down.

Fun Mall Shops

Shoppers stop was the first retailer outlet to be its first anchor store that eats a whopping 79,000 sq.ft, that’s literally close to one third of the Mall. There are a handful of exciting store outlets like the market at the ground floor, a biker’s store at the top floor, barbeque nation restaurant at one end too.

 Overall a neatly laid shopping experience for anyone looking to spend some quality time in the mall for shopping, but yet Brookfields is lightyears ahead with its impressive list of shopping stores, many of which are storming Coimbatore for the first time.

The gaming center which once used to be the main attraction is shut these days, with an exception of 2 or 3 games best suited for kids. Many of the branded outlets have pulled the plug off the mall considering the awry condition of footfalls and with the latest blow of pandemic has made things worse from bad for Fun Mall.

The grocery store on the ground floor seems to be the show stealer at the present moment as it takes away the entire level with its hugely sprung area and its never ending list of impressive appliances and groceries.

And not forget about the food court that has a decent list of veg and non veg outlets, also boosts of McDonald and KFC nearby across the lane.

Fun Cinemas 

Perhaps the fun element of Fun Mall, fun cinemas is Cinepolis venture and is neatly maintained when pitted against the overall standards of the Mall. The ticket counter used to be outside near the entry point earlier which used to be a huge sore point considering harsh weather, which has finally persuaded the authorities to move it alongside the Multiplex screens at top floor.

The multiplex theater has a total of 5 screens of which one is impressively huge, the overall seating capacity of Fun Cinemas is 1119 seats that can comfortably host a huge crowd. With theaters all set to open its services pretty soon, we can expect the Cinepolis to finally come to its life as it was before.

The snack and lounge area in the Multiplex seems to be the tiniest when compared to other malls in cities, also there’s nothing much impressive on the menu, excluding the tasty popcorns and that’s about it. Overall we just wish the excitement that Fun Mall offered during its initial days could have been retained as we can’t help but notice it lost a bit of the charm and the wow factor, hope it gets back to its usual rocking days when the colleges and school reopen soon.
