The shades of attaining tranquillity can’t be experienced up close and personal than being at the heavenly Dhyanalinga, Isha. One of the earliest installations of the Isha yoga center back in 1999 by the Sadhguru himself, Dhyanalinga stands to be disorienting itself from any religion, belief, race or gender and reflects as a profound meditative center for those who believe in the power of yoga and meditation. But how well do you know Dhyanalinga? This blog is all about the Dhyanalinga, history, events, special poojas and timings, how to visit here and much more.
History of Dhyanalinga

Dhyana means meditation in Sanskrit while linga means forms, this refrains itself from the popular belief of praying endlessly to fall into the lap of powerful deity, instead this holy place requires no worship or special prayers but seen as an accessible doorway to spiritual liberation and enlightenment and a space for self realization and existence. The history dates back to 1996, 4 years after Sadhguru unravelled the exquisite place under the foothills of majestic Velliangiri hills.
What happens after that is a list of events that lead to Sadhguru to consecrate the heavenly linga as a spiritual part of the Yoga Isha center, what was once just a meditation center on the outskirts of Coimbatore later turned out to be the most sought after liberation and spiritual existence center near them.
Dhyanalinga is a special dome as it also acts as a vault to the lock the positive and cosmic energy of the mercury laced linga in the center. The Auroville Earth Institute was handed over the mammoth task of building this special dome with no specific deadline or target date but was requested by Sadhguru to complete the works as soon as possible so he can work on consecrating the linga with the yogic sciences.
The Auroville institute was left with minimal time in hand with mostly unskilled local workers whom they had to train specifically to build the dome as this was a rather radical structure back in the 1998. Around 200 local labours were shortlisted for the final project and given training, the work commenced on 21st November 1998 and took roughly about 9 weeks to complete. The dome was finally in its full glory on 31st January 1999.
The dome was mostly built using granite stones at the entrance and laterite blocks at the center to acts as perseverance for the energy transmitted from the Linga.
The team did an overwhelming job considering the cut throat schedule they were handed over to citing the yogic practises and special days set by Sadhguru. They had put their conventional building method on the back burner and opted for a contrasting method that brought in the fired bricks to the party.
As Sadhguru wanted the dome to with stand time and considered it to be a timeless spiritual habitat, the skillful team ruled out the idea of using reinforced concrete.
Everything you need to know about Dhyanalinga

Dhyanalinga is a multi religious meditation dome detaching itself from the clutches of any religion or beliefs. The specially designed dome is 22.16m in diameter 7.9 m rise. The linga itself is a guru, gifting the spiritual seekers an experience of the spiritual enlightenment in utmost silence and intimacy. There was a similar attempt to consecrate a linga like this thousands years ago back in Bhopal.
Consecrating the Linga was his only vision back then, it took him 3 years to finally see his vision attain its glorious form on 24th of June 1999 while it was set out for public view and blessings on 23rd of November 1999. The three years took intensive practice of prana pratishtha, an energy transmitting process that locks the 7 chakras of power at the peak of the linga. The long tiring process took a toll on Sadhguru’s health as later he was taking up rest and medications at a renowned hospital.

How to meditate in Dhyanalinga?

To much of everyone’s surprise, Dhyanalinga doesn’t require any special prayers, meditation or powers to experience the enlightenment. Even people with no idea of the spiritual liberation can feel the slightest wave of energy transmitting inside them.

All you have to do is to sit straight and gaze at the linga for few minutes after which you are supposed to be close your eyes slowly with palms resting over your lap while facing upwards.
Stay atleast 15 minutes to offer yourself to the guru(linga) to attain utmost tranquillity and a bell rings every 15 minutes to make sure the sanctity and silence is maintained inside.
Taking a dip in the holy water of Chnadrakund or Suryakund can also help in cleansing the soul and body for a better receptivity of the energy inside.
